NCI's commitment to the training of foreign cancer researchers is reflected in the large community of visitors working in NCI laboratories. In FY2010 there were over a thousand such visitors representing 80 countries working on intramural projects in NCI's Center for Cancer Research. Many of NCI's past visiting scientists have since become leaders in the worldwide fight against the scourge of cancer, and have contributed greatly to advances in global health related to cancer and other diseases. The majority of these international visitors are supported under the NIH Visiting Program.
